Episode 105: Rebranding the podcast

Introduction

Hi everyone, and welcome to episode 105 of the podcast. I can hardly believe it, but this podcast is now 4 years old! What a journey it’s been so far.

I want to take a moment to say a big thank you to all of you who’ve been listening, whether you’ve been with me from the start or if you’ve joined more recently—it’s been an incredible ride, and I couldn’t have done it without your support.

Now, as you’ve probably noticed from the new opening sequence, there’s some big news to share today.

My podcast has officially been re-branded and will now be focusing on mid-career change.

This is something I’ve been moving towards for a while now, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.

As many of you know, I’ve been working on a new book that will be published very soon—Mid-Career Change: A Guide for Hope, Clarity, and Action.

So, this re-branding really feels like the perfect fit.

The podcast will align beautifully with the book, and together, they’ll provide you with all the tools, strategies, and inspiration you need to navigate this exciting but sometimes challenging time in your career.

I hope you’ll enjoy the new direction the podcast is heading in.

I’m planning interviews with mid-career changers, people who have made the leap and can share their stories—the highs, the lows, the lessons learned.

And of course, I’ll continue to focus on important aspects of making a successful mid-career change, from building self-awareness and exploring new opportunities to overcoming obstacles and managing uncertainty.

It’s going to be an exciting journey ahead, and I’m so glad to have you here with me as we take this next step together.

So, to kick off the new direction of the podcast I wanted to recap on why your mid-career such an important stage

Recap of Mid-Career Importance

So, why is your mid-career such an important stage?

Well, it’s a pivotal time when you’ve accumulated years of valuable experience, knowledge, and skills.

In episode 96, I discussed how your mid-career can sometimes feel like a crossroads—when you might be feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or even questioning if your current path is still the right fit.

But here's the exciting part: this is also the perfect moment to re-evaluate, to ask yourself what you truly want from the next phase of your career.

It’s an opportunity to pause, reflect, and start thinking about making the rest of your professional life the best it can be.

In fact, in episode 98, I described many of the possibilities that exist at this stage, from staying within your industry but exploring new roles, to completely transitioning into something different.

The key is recognising your intrinsic value. You’re more valuable than you might realise.

You have enduring skills—whether it’s problem-solving, project management, or leadership—that are highly transferable.

Mid-career isn’t about starting over again; it’s about using everything you’ve learned to take bold, purposeful steps toward what you really want.

This is where the concept of a “possibility mindset” comes into play, as we’ve discussed before. It’s about approaching your future with openness, curiosity, and the belief that change is not only possible but can be incredibly fulfilling.

 Second Act

And that brings me to a fascinating book that feels particularly relevant to this discussion.

In Second Act by Henry Oliver, there’s a powerful reminder that "talent hides in the open all around us."

What really struck me about this idea is how often we can convince ourselves that our window of opportunity has passed us by, especially in mid-career.

Yet, Oliver highlights how mid-career might actually be the perfect moment to seize those hidden talents and unlock your greatest potential.

One of the most profound insights from Second Act is the idea that “your mid career does not have to be the beginning of the end: it can be another beginning to something even better”

This perspective is so empowering, especially if you're feeling stuck or uncertain. It reminds us that the skills, experience, and wisdom we’ve developed over the years are just waiting for the right opportunity to fully emerge.

Many of the so called ‘late bloomers’ that Oliver studied were often "quietly, persistently developing the qualities" that will eventually lead to their success when the timing aligns.

 And that could be you.

I think this ties in beautifully with everything we’ve been talking about on the podcast lately—mid-career isn’t a time to settle, it’s a time to lean into your experience and reimagine what’s possible.

Whether you're in a role that no longer excites you, or you're searching for deeper meaning in your work, know that it's never too late to embrace your full potential. Your mid-career can be the beginning of something incredibly exciting and fulfilling.

 Closing thoughts

To quickly recap today’s episode, we started by celebrating the podcast’s four-year milestone and introducing the fresh focus on mid-career change. I also shared some exciting news about my upcoming book, Mid Career Change - A Guide for Hope, Clarity and Action, which aligns perfectly with the podcast’s new direction.

We then explored the importance of the mid-career stage, a time that, far from being the end, can be a powerful moment of transformation. Drawing inspiration from Henry Oliver’s Second Act, we discussed how this phase of life can actually be when your hidden talents and greatest opportunities emerge.

Remember, mid-career isn’t a time to settle—it’s a time to grow, to rediscover your strengths, and to step boldly into the future you’ve always wanted. I hope today’s episode has sparked some new ideas and given you a fresh perspective on your own journey.

As we wrap up today, I want to take a moment to thank you again for joining me on this exciting new journey. With the rebranding of the podcast to Mid-Career Change, I truly hope you enjoyed what you heard and that you find this new direction inspiring and valuable. This podcast is all about helping you navigate the twists and turns of mid-career transitions, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.
